Permanent home of the museum is the former Sam Davis House, located at the intersection of Eighth and West Streets in downtown Clarksville VA. In the museum you can find a series of permanent collections of local historical significance, among them the Tobacco Room, Buffalo Springs Room, Clarksville Room, and the Military Room. There is also a pictorial history of the making of Buggs Island Lake.

The museum is open on Saturday (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) from April through November.

The house, built of stone quarried on the plantation, was laid out in 1793 and completed in 1795. When built, it was one of the largest and most complex gentry houses in Virginia. Today, the house retains an exceptional degree of its original interior and exterior detail, including three Federal-era porches and distinctly regional Georgian woodwork.

Much of the American furniture ordered during the construction of the house has been returned as have original examples of early English craftsmanship, and important neoclassical furniture of a second generation.

Named for Native Americans who lived in the area for hundreds of years, Occoneechee is on the John H. Kerr Reservoir, better known as Buggs Island Lake, and is popular with anglers and boaters. The visitor center and museum introduce visitors to Native American history and the indigenous Occoneechee people.

One of the trails in the Park is near where the Occoneechee Plantation used to be. This ‘Old Plantation Trail’ is a really nice 0.7 mile walk and at the same time you will learn about the fascinating history of Occoneechee Plantation and discover some of the plants and animals that call the plantation home.

The park is open daily from 8 a.m.–dusk. The Visitor Center is open daily, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Take a historical walking tour through quaint downtown Clarksville. Learn about the town's history as you enjoy 62 well-preserved homes, churches and businesses including the Easley House, once a hotel on the bluff overlooking Clarksville, and the 1829 Judge Henry Wood, Jr. House, now home to an art gallery. Clarksville was the first incorporated town in the county of Mecklenburg and in 1818 was named after its founder, Clarke Royster. The Royster-Oettinger House, built by the town’s founder, is included on the walking tour. Now known primarily as Virginia's only lakeside town on the shores of Buggs Island Lake/John H. Kerr Reservoir, Clarksville still proudly claims the title of the oldest continuous flue-cured tobacco market in the world. The Sunnyside used to be a tobacco plantation when Tucker Carrington, his wife Mary Watkins and their eight daughters lived in the home. After the Civil War, when money got tight, the four daughters decided to start a boarding school for young ladies and a day school for the children from Clarksville.

We dedicated the Bed and Breakfast to this School and the sisters that ran it. Do you want to know the whole story and talk to the owners? This is possible as long as the rooms are not occupied by guests.

Clarksville is the only Town in Virginia that is by the Lake and so we say ‘Clarksville on the Lake’.

The park is open daily from 8 a.m.–dusk. The Visitor Center is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

In 1947 Charlie Robbins, owner of Clarksville’s Colonial Mills, commissioned Donald Ross to design a golf course for his employees.  Ross designed all 18 holes but only the front nine were constructed at this time. Later in the 50’s Dick Wilson designed and built the back nine.  He also relocated the tee on hole one and the green on hole five.

Established in 2021 this corn maze is a fun family-oriented outdoor activity during during fall. See website for details on opening times. The admission fee includes a giant slide, jumbo bounce pillow, corn pit, wagon ride, animals, 5 acre corn maze, mini/kiddie maze, many photo ops, games and more! Aside from our fall-fun activities they also grow and sell pumpkins, corn stalks, Indian corn, gourds and many other fall décor.
